A surprisingly impressive walk along the South Wales coast, with spectacular rock formations, sandy beaches, woodland and grassy strips. It has two moderate climbs and a café stop halfway.
The walk will include gentle grounding practices, sensory invitations and stretches to help us reconnect with our bodies, our senses and the nature around us.
From Rhoose, it's a short walk across grassland to the coast path, where you can see the first of several limestone pavements and the first views across the estuary towards Somerset and Devon. Shortly after, on the landward side, there is a former quarry with small lakes, home to various waterbirds.
We will briefly pass through a caravan site and an Iron Age hillfort, descending to Porthkerry, where there is a café with toilets. The path then curves around a bay with a pebble beach, and the remains of a Roman building.
At low tide you can cross the sand from the Knap to Barry Island. The last mile or so heads towards and along the promenade of Whitmore Bay, which is traditional British seaside style with amusements, fish and chips and lots of people on the beach. It's a short cut inland from there to the station.
